Signs Your AC Needs a Repair
Common AC problems we fix
- Running, but the air isn’t cold: could be refrigerant, the compressor or the outdoor fan.
- The outdoor unit is quiet while the indoor fan runs: the condenser may not be getting power or a signal.
- Ice on the copper lines or the indoor coil: usually airflow or refrigerant. Turn it off and call.
- Water around the indoor unit: the condensate drain or pump may be backed up.
- Short-cycling: the AC turns on and off every few minutes.
- The house feels damp or sticky even with the AC on.
- Buzzing, rattling or grinding from the outdoor unit.
- A breaker trips when the AC starts: don’t keep resetting it. Call us.
Central air only. Ductless and heat pumps have their own pages.
- If the AC trips a breaker, don’t keep resetting it.
- If you see ice on the lines or coil, turn the system off at the thermostat and call. Don’t chip at the ice.
- Refrigerant and high-voltage work are for trained technicians only.
