How a boiler heats your home

A boiler heats water and a circulator pump moves it through pipes to your radiators or baseboard. The water gives off its heat in each room and comes back to the boiler to be heated again. Homes with more than one thermostat have zones, each with its own pump or valve.

Oil-fired boilers

Common in homes in our area that heat with oil. An oil burner fires into the boiler, and C&L can also deliver the oil. Heating Oil →

Gas-fired boilers

For homes with natural gas service. We install and repair propane-fired boilers too, for homes that heat with propane.

Standard and high-efficiency boilers

Newer boilers come in different designs, some built to squeeze more heat out of the fuel. Which one fits depends on your home, your chimney or venting, and your budget. We’ll walk you through it at your estimate.

Boilers that also make hot water

Some boilers heat your household hot water, through a coil or a separate indirect tank. We install and service indirect water heaters.

Boiler or furnace: which do I have?

If you have radiators or baseboard, it’s a boiler. If warm air comes out of vents, it’s a furnace.

Can I switch from oil to gas?

Yes, we do oil-to-gas conversions. It depends on whether gas service is available at your home, and we can talk through it at your estimate.

Can my boiler heat my hot water too?

Some can, through a coil or an indirect tank. We install and service indirect water heaters.

Do boilers need a yearly tune-up?
