Help paying your heating bill
LIHEAP Energy Assistance
The 2026–2027 Pennsylvania LIHEAP season is scheduled to open on November 2, 2026.
What Is LIHEAP?
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps Pennsylvania households with lower incomes pay their heating bills. It is run by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS).
LIHEAP is a grant. You do not have to pay it back.
C&L Fuel Inc. accepts LIHEAP cash and crisis grants for heating oil.

Season Dates
DHS has scheduled the 2026–2027 season to run from November 2, 2026, to April 23, 2027. DHS can extend or shorten the season depending on funding.
Two Kinds of LIHEAP Grants
Cash Grants
A one-time payment that is sent directly to your utility company or fuel company and credited on your bill.
Cash grants range from $200 to $1,000, based on household size, income and fuel type.
See the DHS benefit table (opens in a new tab)
Crisis Grants
Extra help if your household has a heating emergency, such as:
- Broken heating equipment or leaking lines that must be fixed or replaced
- No fuel, or less than a 15-day supply left
- Your main heating source, or the source that runs it, has been shut off
- A notice that your utility service will be shut off
For 2026–2027, DHS set the season maximum for crisis grants at $1,000 per household.
If you have not received a LIHEAP grant this season, you must apply for LIHEAP to be considered for a crisis grant. If you already received LIHEAP this season, contact your County Assistance Office to report your heating emergency.
